The decision to relocate the production site for RŌSHI Mastercraft is the result of a realistic assessment – and at the same time the expression of a clear requirement: If you build handmade shoes like we do, you also have to create the right framework for them.
Until now, our Goodyear-welted men's shoes were manufactured in an established factory in Almansa, Spain – a place with a long tradition of shoemaking. However, with the company's continued growth, production conditions changed: Small, elaborately crafted series like ours are hardly feasible there anymore – at least not in the way I envision for RŌSHI and our customers.
That's why I made the decision to move production to Felgueiras in Portugal.
For me, this is not a new beginning – but rather a return.
Between 2012 and 2020, I worked as a product and quality manager for another brand with various Portuguese shoe manufacturers – in Felgueiras, Guimarães, and São João da Madeira. I know the region, the working methods, the high level of craftsmanship – and, above all, the attitude of the people. Shoes are not just a product here, but a cultural asset.

Shortly before the launch of RŌSHI 2024, I connected with Hugo Melo, an old acquaintance from that time, via social media. It quickly became clear that we shared the same values – quality, craftsmanship, and character. With over 20 years of experience as the son and nephew of respected Portuguese shoe manufacturers, Hugo is now my local partner. He brings not only in-depth expertise but also an excellent network of suppliers and specialized manufacturers.
Together we selected a small, owner-operated workshop in Felgueiras.
A true family business with just ten employees – father, mother, son, aunt, uncle, and four other experienced shoemakers. They are the second generation to work on small series, special projects, and high-quality models for microbrands, actors, presenters, and select fashion brands.
What sets them apart is not only their craftsmanship, but also their attitude to their work: production is not under time pressure, but each pair receives the attention and care it needs – be it during cutting, sewing, lasting or the final touches.
This is more complex and costly, no question – but in the long run, this is exactly what makes the difference between good and outstanding footwear.
The first model from this new partnership will be released in summer 2025:
A retro sneaker with influences from classic Americana models like the Chuck Taylor 70 and the Jack Purcell – but with craftsmanship on a completely different level. The look is complemented by workwear details, high-quality workmanship, and exceptional materials: raw denim, moleskin, waxed cotton, and fine corduroy – sourced exclusively from renowned European weavers and tanneries.
Each material variant is released in strictly limited editions, exclusively in the RŌSHI webshop and at selected retail partners.
I'm really looking forward to this next step – and to what we'll make possible with it: shoes with substance, with attitude, with history. For people who consciously choose quality.
