Tanning leather to a consistently high standard is a bit like alchemy—it's an ancient, almost magical science in its own right, often handed down through generations according to ancient recipes and extremely demanding in its execution. It's all the more fortunate that we work with some of the best tanneries in the world.
This is the name given to the most well-known, most complex, and most durable construction method used to manufacture high-quality, classic shoes. Developed by Charles Goodyear as early as 1869, this construction uses a special stitching technique to combine the sole frame, shoe, and sole in a robust, waterproof, and resolable manner.
A great deal of experience and time goes into giving our RŌSHI shoes their shape and function. Each pair of these Goodyear-welted shoes is painstakingly crafted by hand and on special machines by experienced shoemakers at various stations, using 174 processes and 210 work steps.
